the ultimate manhattan, kansas photo location guide

by Mattea Bower Photo Company, LLC.

Hello, friend! My name is Mattea. Are you looking for the right place to take photos in Kansas? After living in Manhattan for more than six years, I’ve gathered my go-to spots for portraits. Whether it’s a senior session, an engagement shoot, or family photos, these locations always deliver. Manhattan, set right in the Flint Hills, makes for some of the prettiest scenery around Kansas!

Top of the World Drive / Washington Marlatt Memorial Park–

3410 Top of the World Dr, Manhattan, KS 66503

This is a classic for a reason. You get a stunning panoramic view of the Manhattan, and the lighting at golden-hour is beautiful. There is Kansas Prairie grass, seasonal wildflowers and lots of green in the spring and summer! At the base of the hill there are some shaded pathways, as well! It’s a great spot for couples or seniors who want a more natural, scenic look. Plus, it’s quiet and peaceful—perfect if you’re a little camera shy.

Tuttle Creek (Wildcat) Marina–

8220 Spillway Marina Rd, Manhattan, KS 66502

Tuttle Creek has these unexpected moody, PNW-feeling corners that I can’t get enough of. Think: textured rock edges, soft rippling water, boats bobbing in the distance, and overgrown greenery hugging the shore. Around the marina and just beyond, you’ll find rocky paths and quiet inlets that make the perfect backdrop for cozy couples, senior portraits, or even barefoot family sessions. It’s peaceful & stunning. Perfect for anyone who wants a little water and earth in their gallery.

Downtown Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas—

The alleys, murals, brick walls, and string lights along Poyntz Ave make it a dream backdrop. For something playful, stop by the bench outside Steve’s Floral or the striped canopy at the Winged Lion for a pop of color and pattern. If you’re after a more classic look, the Riley County District Courthouse is perfect. This area is one of my favorite go-to spots for couples and seniors—whether you want something casual and fun or bold and editorial. The best part is the variety, all within easy walking distance.

K-State Gardens—

1500 Denison Ave., Manhattan, Kansas

If you're into lush greens, florals, and quiet tucked-away corners, the K-State Gardens are a dream. It’s one of my favorite places for senior sessions, especially in spring or early summer when everything’s in bloom. The little walking paths, stone benches, and pops of color make it feel like a mini botanical getaway right in the middle of Manhattan. Whether you’re doing senior photos, an engagement session, or something more casual—this spot brings a soft, timeless vibe every time.

Wildcat Park

2019-2025 W 62nd Ave, Manhattan, KS 66503

If you love wooded paths, creeks and dreamy evening light, Wildcat Park delivers. It’s a little off the beaten path and super underrated. Make sure you bring some comfy walking shoes! Great for seniors, engagement or maternity sessions with a natural and romantic vibe.

Kansas Hill–

735 Crestline Dr., Manhattan, KS 66502

This spot feels like a hidden gem—even though it’s right outside of town. Kansas Hill gives you those wide open prairie views that stretch forever, with tall grass that glows at golden hour and the softest breeze rolling through. It’s the kind of place where you feel small in the best way. Perfect for twirling senior sessions, snuggly couples, or dreamy family shots with a natural backdrop.

My best piece of advice when choosing a location for your photos in Manhattan is to not feel stuck to a list! Look around ya! There is so much beauty everywhere. <3

All my love,

Mattea
