Hello, there! I’m Mattea. I’ve had an inclination to document life for as long as I can remember. It may have started with my dad, camera in hand. While he’s not exactly tech savvy, I know he was always there, recording our made up songs and everyday life on a VHS recorder. I loved watching those tapes over and over again as a kid.
Really, I always loved art. So maybe it’s more appropriate to saw that I had an innate instinct to create. Drawing, painting, writing, music, photos, you name it. For me, photography became a way to observe and be apart of Creation. A puddle reflecting the large maple tree in our backyard. A sunflower in bloom soaking in the Kansas heat.
And then, suddenly, it was moments I saw as beautiful. Even more beautiful than the former. I wanted to remember them. The joy of meeting a new friend at camp. A barista pouring me a coffee after a hard day at school. My camera and me, we were there for all of it.
That early love for preserving memories has only deepened over the years. I photographed my first wedding as a teenager, and since then, this passion has grown into a career marked by creativity, and a deep sense of calling. I truly credit the Lord’s hand in every step of this journey. Photography has never been just a job to me, but a way to express love.
Anyways, I’m so glad you’re here, right now. I’m excited to make a new friend and take photos for you.

A little more about me –
My home base is Manhattan, KS. I am often in Kansas City (my second base), visiting family in Palm Beach, or traveling to see and document friends all over of the world!
I married my college sweetheart, Kaden. We’re opposites in most ways but we share our faith, love for cats and humor. He let’s me pick his clothes, so that’s a plus.
I’m a pastor’s kid! And my hub is also on staff at our church, now. Ask me about it, it’s a fun story.
I almost studied art education—ended up in ministry school + photography instead! I went to Manhattan Christian College and graduated with a bachelor’s in Bible & Leadership with an emphases in counseling and youth min.
My maiden name is Mattea Black! My photo business for 10+ years was called Mattea Black Photo <3.
